Research at Michigan State University’s Kellogg Biological Station in Hickory Corners, Mich. has concentrated on developing a no-till organic soybean production system using fall-seeded cover crops and the roller/crimper. Research was initiated in 2004 and continues into the 2008 growing season.
We have planned several projects incorporating the use of crimped rye as a season-long weed control. During the summers of 2008 and 2009 we will be evaluating the use of crimped rye for controlling weeds in pumpkins. In the summer of 2008 we will compare four varieties of rye for growth habits, maturity date and weed control.
Below are summaries of KBS research methods and findings for the last four years. All research was made possible through support from Project GREEEN.
